The global fire curtain market is governed by several testing and certification regimes, the most common being British Standards (BS), European CE-marked standards (EN), and North American UL standards. While all provide a level of fire performance verification, they are fundamentally different in scope, application, and testing philosophy.
The key distinction is that BS 8524 was specifically developed for active fire curtain assemblies, whereas CE classifications and many UL approvals primarily assess the fire resistance of a product under laboratory conditions rather than its complete operational functionality as a deployable life-safety system.
