Established in 2009, The AAEMS has as its forerunner, The Asian EMS Council, the foundations of which were laid in Busan, South Korea, by Associate Professors, Sang Do Shin of Korea and Marcus Ong of Singapore.

Subsequently, physicians from 8 countries put the idea into shape in 2009 at the NAEMSP and Korean Society of Emergency Medicine meeting and set up the Asian EMS Council to promote and advocate the pre-hospital care / EMS in Asia. The Asian Association for EMS was registered out of Singapore on the 22nd of March 2016 as a body of professionals to create a uniform EMS across Asia. Its history dates to 2009, when the Asian EMS Council was formed.
