Peter is nationally recognised with over 30 years of experience in fire safety research, testing, consultancy, and standards development. He was awarded the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award in 2024 by the Fire NZ conference committee for his pivotal role in advancing fire hazard research, developing fire testing standards, and leading the development of the new BRANZ fire lab. His work has directly influenced the New Zealand Building Code, including referenced research into fire spread on external claddings.

Peter holds postgraduate qualifications in fire risk engineering and performance-based building codes from Victoria University of Technology, Melbourne. He has led fire testing programmes, contributed to building code reform, and provided consultancy across the sector. His long-standing involvement in standards development has helped shape safer building practices in New Zealand and Australia.
