Hugin is the chemical detection node of the ASGARD distributed detection architecture. It is in development at TRL 3–4.

The format is a deck of cards, under 100 grams, carried on a person or mounted on a platform, not installed on a wall. Air is sampled continuously, with no blind cycle, and analysis runs on the device.

Detection works on pattern, not on a single reading. A chemical signature characterized in the laboratory becomes a class, and new classes reach fielded units over the air: no hardware change, no consumable. What has not been learned is reported as unknown rather than raised as an alarm.

The posture is detect to warn, not identify to treat. Hugin is built to tell a team that something is in the air and that it should act.
