Course Overview
The Basic Traffic Controller Course (BTCC) is designed to provide workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage traffic safely and efficiently at work sites. This course focuses on practical training in traffic control, hazard management, and emergency response, ensuring compliance with the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) Code of Practice for Traffic Control at Work Zones.
What You'll Learn:

Roles & Responsibilities:
Understand the duties of traffic controllers and spotters in maintaining safety at work sites. -
Signals & Communication:
Learn standard hand signals, STOP/GO bat usage, radio communication, and the importance of line-of-sight and acknowledgment. -
Worksite Layout & Setup:
Gain knowledge in setting up approach tapers, buffer zones, cones, barriers, delineators, and lighting for dusk/night works. -
Signage Basics:
Understand the use of advance warning signs, speed control, detours, lane closures, and visibility requirements. -
PPE & Positioning:
Learn about high-visibility apparel, footwear, gloves, eye/ear protection, safe stance, and escape routes. -
Managing Vehicle Movement:
Acquire skills in handling heavy vehicles, reversing operations, plant blind spots, and coordinating with banksmen/spotters. -
Pedestrian & Public Safety:
Implement measures for safe crossing points, exclusion zones, barricades, and clear briefings. -
Hazard Control & Housekeeping:
Identify and mitigate risks related to weather, surface conditions, poor visibility, distractions, and fatigue. -
Incident & Emergency Response:
Learn procedures for near-miss reporting, scene protection, communication, and escalation.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

Set up and maintain a safe traffic control zone with correct signage and barriers.

Use standard signals/STOP-GO bat and radio calls clearly and consistently.

Coordinate with drivers, operators, and spotters to prevent vehicle–pedestrian conflicts.

Apply PPE and safe positioning to reduce exposure.

Respond appropriately to incidents and changing site risks.

Workers assigned to traffic control or banksman/spotter duties at construction, maintenance, utilities, logistics yards, and plant operations.
Assessment & Certification:
The course includes knowledge checks and a practical signaling/site-setup exercise. Successful participants will receive a Course Certificate of Completion from Ensure Safe Consultancy Pte Ltd.
